Organize A Collection Drive to Support A Food Pantry Serving LMI Families
Needs Summary
We are seeking bank partners that are willing to organize either a collection drive for the needed items and/or serve as a collection point for gift card donations that can be used by our nonprofit to purchase the items to meet our clients' needs.
Need CategoryDonation (in Kind)
Support NeededIn order to adequately fill the pantry to meet demand, we need at least 150 of each item (laundry soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toilet paper, etc.) each month.
Date NeededDecember 31, 2020
Details of Need
Our food pantry serves approximately 200 families (450 people) per month with food, personal care, paper, and cleaning products. Member churches, businesses and community groups help to supply the needs of the pantry. However, as summer approaches, donations to our pantry tend to slow down. And yet, this is the season when children are home from school and the demands upon households increase. We are in particular need of toiletry items, cleaning products, and paper products.
Bank partners under this program could communicate the needs to their customers and employees and offer them the chance to respond with either items to donate to our pantry or in the form of gift cards for us to purchase the items tax free in bulk.
We are seeking support from banks within our zip code service areas of 40059, 40222, 40223, 40241, 40242, 4023, and 40245. These donations would go directly to filling the inventory on our shelves or for the purchase of needed items on our shelves.
Community Impact
We serve as a safety net and support system for families in our community who struggle to meet their basic needs. The food pantry responds to the most basic of needs - health and nutrition. Many of the families utilizing our food pantry resource are engaged in the Helping Hands Partnership. These families are participating in financial education activities, budgeting workshops, and other economic stability work. While they are taking the steps to achieve financial stability, our resources assist them in keeping a strong foundation underneath them as they work to achieve a brighter future. Participating in this project would be a direct support by the community to assist these hard working families.
