What does it mean for a nonprofit to be CRA aligned?
Each nonprofit on Community Qualifier has been reviewed by findCRA utilizing a dual evaluation process. Nonprofits are first evaluated by our proprietary algorithm, CRANIA, and then further validated by our CRA experts. When nonprofit passes both parts of this review, we create a nonprofit profile for them on Community Qualifier. From there, a nonprofit can claim their profile and add additional information including their programs & services, counties served, targeted clients and income groups and more.

Programs & Services info
Residential Treatment Program
In our residential treatment facilities, we serve adult men, ages 18 and older, diagnosed with a substance use disorder. We specialize in helping people with co-occurring mental health conditions, Veterans, those involved in the criminal justice system, people with low to no income, and those who have unstable or no housing. We operate three residential treatment facilities in Salt Lake County, Utah. The most important component of our program is our team of highly effective addiction specialists. Programs are administered by a team of professionals, many of whom are master’s-level clinicians with substance use disorder treatment experience. Our team utilizes evidence-based modalities during therapy and life skills classes.

Outpatient Treatment
Our mental health outpatient program allows us to serve those struggling with serious mental illness (SMI), as well as those struggling with mild to moderate mental health conditions. Our substance use disorder outpatient program allows us to serve those with substance use disorders who have completed residential treatment or people whose substance use disorders are stable enough that outpatient services are clinically warranted. First Step House strives to ensure that each patient receives the appropriate services according to their needs. To accomplish this, we employ diverse therapeutic modalities across our continuum of care.

Housing Case Management
Housing Case Management is part of the wrap-around services we provide to help people successfully complete behavioral health treatment programs and exit First Step House into permanent housing. This program serves individuals who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, typically arriving at First Step House directly from the streets or incarceration. Most of our clients face steep barriers to finding housing, including chronic behavioral health conditions, mental health disorders, and legal system involvement. The objective of Housing Case Management is to ensure every person we serve secures safe, stable housing and access to the resources and support necessary to maintain housing long-term.

Primary Care Integration
FSH clients have histories of homelessness, substance use disorders, mental health conditions, and co-morbid health concerns. Primary Care Integration removes barriers for clients to access medical care, by integrating routine health screenings and care into behavioral health services. Clients who come to us for support with substance use or mental health conditions have access to medical screening, treatment, and long-term care without being sent back out the door to coordinate their own doctors’ visits.
