Volunteer to Deliver Financial Literacy, Career Readiness and Entrepreneurship Programs to LMI K-12 Students

Needs Summary

All Junior Achievement volunteer-led programs that teach K-12 students financial literacy, career readiness and entrepreneurship concepts are eligible for CRA credit. JA staff will work with bank representatives to recruit, train and coach employees who volunteer in school classrooms throughout the region. Class visits typically last for 45 minutes each, once a week, for five weeks. A “JA in a Day” delivery format is available for banks that wish to bring a team of employees to deliver an entire program in a single morning.

Details of Need

By being a JA volunteer and sharing your personal and professional experiences and skills with students from your community, you help them make the connection between what they are learning in school and what they will need to succeed in work and life. JA gives you an opportunity through your employer's volunteer program (or on your own) to impact young people in your community in a positive way with simple to implement programs on financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship. This will empower young people to own their economic success.

Community Impact

Junior Achievement prepares students to develop successful financial management habits, empowers them to explore the potential of becoming an aspiring entrepreneur, and provides them with the skills necessary to succeed in a global workforce. Research to date indicates that students engaged in JA are able to connect classroom lessons with real life experiences. Students at all grade levels reported that JA fostered the attitude and provided knowledge that will help them set goals, seek out important information, and be successful.

Incorporated in 1949 and now serving 27 counties throughout Kentucky and southern Indiana, Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana (JA) is a leading provider of youth educational programs focused on financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship. JA’s classroom and experiential programs begin at the elementary school level, teaching children how they can influence the world around them as individuals, workers and consumers. The learning continues through middle and high school grades, preparing students for the economic and workforce issues they will face in the future. Given that in two-thirds of the counties served by JA the majority of students are eligible for federal Free or Reduced Lunch programs, JA offers numerous opportunities for bankers to assist underserved, low-income students and areas. Under the CRA, providing grants or volunteer support for JA’s programs targeted to low-income students would qualify as a community development activity and would be eligible for credit during CRA examinations.
